Media release: Hong Kong's most attractive companies revealed: Randstad Employer Brand Research 2017
Recruitment firm Randstad named MTR as the most attractive employer in Hong Kong at the Randstad Employer Brand Awards 2017 (previously known as the Randstad Award). The annual award, was held for the fifth consecutive year in Hong Kong at The Eaton House and is the 17th global edition.

MTR took the title as Hong Kong’s most attractive employer after coming in second place in 2016. This was the first time MTR took the top position since its win at the inaugural Randstad Employer Brand Awards in 2013. Runner up Swire Properties also emerged back into Top 3 since 2013 when it also came in 2nd place.

Alison Wong, General Manager - Human Resources, MTR noted, “We are incredibly proud that our company has been recognized as one of Hong Kong’s most attractive employers. The results echo our own Staff Engagement Survey which has shown that our employees consider MTR to be a good employer with a vast majority saying they are proud to be an MTR staff member. Our company has been built on our values of excellent service, mutual respect, value creation and enterprising spirit. We believe 'People Make a Difference' and we are committed to Inspire, Engage and Develop our Staff.  We are glad to say that the findings of Randstad Employer Brand Research will help us to continue to strive for further excellence in our business and enhance our attractiveness as an employer.”

While the Randstad Employer Brand Awards celebrates its fifth year in Hong Kong, 2017 also marks another achievement. For five consecutive years, Hong Kong organizations have occupied the Top 3 ranks, highlighting the high level of employer branding employed by local organizations.

Three other Sector Awards were also presented tonight – with this year’s spotlight on the most attractive employers within the Banking & Financial Services, Luxury & Retail and Information Technology sectors. New entrant into the Top 75, Kering, came in strong with a Top 20 placement and winning the Luxury & Retail category. Goldman Sachs jumped from 18th position in 2016 to 11th to win the Banking & Financial Services category this year. IBM’s consistent performance in employer branding saw it move up one position to 13th most attractive employer to take the win in the hotly contested Information Technology sector.

Natellie Sun, Managing Director of Randstad Hong Kong said, "2017 marks a major milestone for the Randstad Employer Brand Research and Awards. For five consecutive years, Randstad’s research has been helping and recognizing businesses within Hong Kong nurture their employer brands in a strategic manner to help them attract the best talent to their organizations with in-depth insights. It’s also incredible to see local organizations taking the top three positions over the past five years, showcasing that local businesses here truly understand the power of employing an effective employer brand to beat their competitors, even if they may be big global brands.”

The Randstad Employer Brand Awards, previously known as the Randstad Awards, is presented each year to the most attractive employer in 26 countries across the globe. It is based on the outcome of one of the world’s most representative and inclusive research into employer branding, covering over 160,000 global respondents.

The 75 largest companies are selected in each participating country, usually with more than 1,000 employees. This list is presented to a representative cross section of relevant respondents based on region, age, education and gender. In Hong Kong, 5,150 employees and job-seekers between the ages of 18-65 were surveyed.

Here are the list of the top 20 companies based on attractiveness out of all 75 companies surveyed.

About Randstad Employer Brand Research

Celebrating its 17th edition globally, the Randstad Employer Brand Award is presented each year to the most attractive employer in 26 countries across the globe, based on the findings of the most representative and inclusive employer brand research in the world. The outcome of the Employer Brand Award is based on public perception and focuses on three main areas: overall brand awareness, absolute attractiveness and relative attractiveness. This creates a level playing field for all competing companies instead of giving an advantage to large multinationals with higher name recognition than smaller companies. This award is not open for nomination and the results are based solely on the opinions and votes of the local workforce – making it the only award that is truly representing ‘the people’s choice’. The 75 largest companies are selected in each participating country, usually with more than 1,000 employees. This list is presented to a representative cross section of relevant respondents based on region, age and gender. Respondents were asked to identify companies they recognize and indicate if they would like to work for them. This is then followed up with an evaluation of attractiveness factors, such as salary, benefits, work atmosphere and job content, for each of the companies.
